Many people wish they owned an island. Living on an island is like paradise; there are no hassles with traffic, you have complete privacy, you don’t have to deal with annoying neighbors, you can sunbathe nude, do whatever you want without breaking idiotic city laws and have as many animals as you want. And the best thing is that one does not have to deal with crazy fans and the paparazzi. However, owning a private island is not a cheap undertaking.
The majority of islands cost upwards of $2 million and can go as high as $100 million. Plus one has to maintain the island, have transport, an airstrip, own an airplane and have the staff to maintain the landscape. Only the very rich can afford to buy an island. Here are some male celebs who have made it big in Hollywood and own their own island.
1. Johnny Depp
Johnny Depp was a rich man once upon a time and early on in his career he became acquainted with Marlon Brando, who taught him a thing or two about real estate. Today, Depp owns a 45-acre tropical island in the Caribbean called Little Hall’s Pond Cay.
While Depp has kept the financial deal a secret, experts say it is probably worth $5-$10 million. Sadly the guy is now broke and his latest movie is on hold. Looks like he never learned how to save money from Brando.
Leonardo Dicaprio became a multi-millionaire by starring in the movie Titanic. Since then Leonardo has become a major player in Hollywood. He owns a ton of expensive real estate but one of his most expensive purchase is an island off the coast of Belize, called Blackmore Caye island.
He has turned this 104-acre site into an eco-forest and is always bringing his female friends over. While all is good with Leonardo, the guy probably lacks testosterone- he just can’t grow a thick beard.
3. Mel Gibson
Mel Gibson is loaded with money. After a career with many great movies, the guy can afford to buy almost anything he wants. In 2005, he bought one of the Mao islands in Fiji. The island is a tropical forecast and was even featured on 30 Rock entitled Operations Righteous Cowboy Lightning.
Mel has turned the island into a paradise where he spends a few weeks each summer. Perhaps now he should spend a few hundred dollars and take a course in anger management.
Steven Spielberg is one of the richest people on this planet. Many years ago he bought an island off the coast of Portugal. Located in the Madeira Archipelago, the island is surrounded by pristine blue waters, sandy white beaches, and year-round sunshine.
5. Eddie Murphy
Eddie Murphy is set for life. His dumb Cop movies of the 90s made him rich. And unlike many Hollywood stars, the guy has safely invested his money. In 2007, he purchased an island in the Bahamas called Rooster Cay island.
Prior to that he owned another island nearby called Pearl. So now he can meet up with transvestites without the LA cops bothering him.
